When deciding on the perfect business name, don’t forget to get feedback on your ideas from potential customers! Be sure to ask questions like: Does this sound like a trustworthy business?, What quality of product or service would you expect to get from this business? Does the answers align with your business goals? That said, here are some name ideas to help you create the perfect business name:

Tips for naming a Family Business

When naming your family business, it’s important to remember what you’re trying to achieve or illustrate to your audience with your name. Typically, a family business is given a family name to place ideals of “trust” or “family values” into the business. Therefore, you probably want to go for two routes: Either include the familial relationship in the name, or make the familial bond the main selling point of the name. Beyond the name of the business, choosing to go this route of branding should involve putting a deep priority on the traditional “family values” of a business. Your products/services should be crafty, and have a sense of care embellished into every sale. You should get to know your customers on a more personal level, and your “neighborhood” personality should be your main selling point. You should value integrity, and a quality job. After all, when you put your family name in a business, you are attaching the quality of your work to your personal identity, and the identity of those closest to you, forever.

Specifically, if you’re going for a mother daughter relationship in your business name, you are highlighting even more highly regarded societal and business values. First and foremost, you are highlighting the strongest emotional and biological connection a person can have: The relationship between mother & child. This is something people hold in high regard. If it is reflected in your name, and you provide a quality good/service, this will be to your benefit. When you specifically make the clarification of a “mother daughter” child relationship, you are specifically implying traditionally feminine values, which should be reflecting in your branding and the way you do business. Feminine values in a business can look like care, attention to detail, sensitivity, understanding of a client’s needs, etc. Again, this should be reflected in your branding and business practices. Once you decide you are ready to take on the very real responsibility of putting family values into your business name, let’s take a look at some potential business names, and analyze how well they work:

Family Business name analysis
If you’re still stuck on creating some name ideas, here’s a breakdown of some of the top brands and businesses in the industry. Here I’ll explain why the name works for that company, and how the name appeals to customers. What’s more, a few more team members from BizNameWiz have added their name ideas below aswell!

Smith and Daughters
Ah yes! The classic “X and sons/daughters” name. This name is a fantastic choice because it is highly memorable (due to it being a common naming style), but will always be unique with every. As always, it’s important to check with this name to be sure it’s unique, and it’s extremely important to know that you are permanently associating your business practices with anyone who has that last name.

One family to another
This name is a bit long, undescriptive, and seems more like a slogan than a company name. However, it evokes a very nice idea. If your business was able to combine what it did with this name, or somehow make a pun implying what kind of business you are, then a name like this works well. Be sure that the business name is as easy to remember as possible, and that it actually fits your niche.

Fur Family
This is a GREAT name! It’s short, alliterative, gives us some idea of the business. Also, it works extra well because it doesn’t harm.

Creative username generator availability

Creative username generator availability – If you’re like many other entrepreneurs, then coming up with a name for your business is one of the hardest parts! The possibilities seem endless and since it will be the cornerstone of your branding, you want to make sure it’s perfect.

Likewise, your username represents your business everywhere you want to have a presence on the internet. Since the internet is an indispensable tool to market your business, you should put an equal amount of effort into ensuring you pick a name that works on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, and everywhere else you want to be found.

What to do Before Choosing a Username
By doing a bit of groundwork before you jump into choosing a username, you’ll make the process go much smoother and come out with a better result.

No matter where on the web you want to create an account for your business, chances are they have certain rules or guidelines in place. Before you go through all the effort of brainstorming the perfect business username, take a moment to get the following answers:

What is the character limit? Fifteen characters is generally the most you should use and is the limit for some sites (like Twitter).

What type of characters can you use? For example, some sites only allow letters or alphanumeric characters.

Can you use your business name to register? Some sites only allow personal names as visible usernames.
Do you have to modify your brand name in another way? For example, some sites don’t allow a username to start with numbers.

Collate the rules from the most important sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and try and find a rough guideline for your username that will work everywhere.

Depending on whether your a new business and how established you are online, you can really benefit from some research before diving into creating your username:

Keyword research: Use the main word you identify with your brand or other key industry phrases to look for
popular keywords. Use tools like Google Keyword planner., etc.

Competitor research: Try to find out who the main competitors are in your niche. If you’re a small, local business, try to find similar businesses in your area. This will give you an idea of how to choose a name that’s relevant, yet unique.

Target market research: Look at who you are trying to sell to. Find them on social media and see what hashtags they use and what is trending.

These steps, and their order, aren’t carved in stone. Change them up or repeat them to suit your style and circumstances. However, completing all of them will help you come up with a great username quick-and-easy.

Step 1: Brainstorm Ideas
Now that you have a good idea of the availability and rules for creating your username, you can’t start brainstorming ideas!

This is the fun part where your creativity can roam free. Although you should keep the limits in mind, don’t be scared to try new or whacky ideas as you don’t know where they might lead.

This is also where using a username generator can come in handy to help you think of new possibilities and combinations.

For example, if I want to create an organic food company with the “Harmony” in the name, these could be some possibilities:

Harmoney Green
Harmony Herbed
Harmony Heaven
Harmonica

It’s helpful to start with a main word that describes your brand and to build from there. You can then come up with new ideas by:

Adding describing words that match your brand (e.g., “green”)
Adding prefixes/suffixes (e.g. -ica, -omatic, -ness)
Using words that alliterate or rhyme, etc.
Step 2: Shortlist Your Ideas
Next up, you can start being a bit more selective by narrowing down on a shortlist of ideas. For example, using the list above, I might get rid of “Harmony Heaven” because it’s a bit too long and mouthy. On the other hand, Harmonica has a nice ring to it and is short and sweet but the meaning is too ambivalent thanks to the instrument.

That leaves me with two options:

Harmony Green
Harmony Herbed
Step 3: Research and Feedback
With a shortlist, try and find out what others think about your username. This can be as simple and informal as a poll or question on one of your social media accounts. Ask whether others like your username and what are the words, feelings, or first things that come to mind when they hear it. This will help you establish whether you’re identifying with your target market and whether you’re getting your message across.

However, be prepared to get different answers on different platforms as they might have different audiences. In this case, try to think about whether you want to optimize your presence on different platforms and how that will factor into your overall brand.

Step 4: Check if the Username is Available and Reserve It!
For branding and identification purposes, you want your domain, usernames, and business name to be as close as possible. It will also make creating your branding and marketing material easier if you can name your business consistently. If your username isn’t available, try to think of words you can add or changes you can make that keeps it recognizable. If the domain is taken, see if you can find a relevant extension that still matches your brand or the purpose of your website. For example “.store” instead of “.com”.

You can also further refine the username by repeating some of these steps. If your username, or something similar to it, is too widely used, it might be a sign that you should pick something new and unique. You can use online tools, like KnowEm, to see if and how much certain names are used. If it is available, and your sure it’s the name you want to use, reserve it everywhere you can! There’s no telling how long that will still be the case. Register the domain and create an account on all the platforms that are the most critical to you.

Bonus Tips for Generating a Username
Here are some extra tips and best practices to keep in mind that will help you generate relevant, memorable, and effective usernames:

Try to keep it as short and simple as possible so that it’s easy to remember and find.
Try to pick something that’s easy to read and rolls of the tongue. An outside perspective can be helpful here.
Using rhythm, rhyming, alliteration, etc. can make a username more memorable.
A business username doesn’t have to be a real word(s). However, make sure it’s catchy and matches your branding.
Keep it secure:

Don’t make your username and password similar
Don’t use personal/sensitive information in your username
Use different username/password combinations for different accounts
Use a password vault
Use a username generator to help come up with tons of ideas in no-time!

Tips for naming a Cosmetics Business

The cosmetics industry is one of the largest and fastest growing business sectors, experiencing little impact from the economic ups and downs worldwide. And with so much growth and competition in the industry, standing out requires strategic management, a lot of commitment and, of course, a great name. The right name can help you reach out to more customers and it can take your company to the next level. But how can you pick the perfect name for your cosmetics company? Read on and find out!

  1. Simplicity is the key: In an industry that is teeming with iconic and hugely successful brands, choosing a simple name that can be easily pronounced and remembered is crucial. Try to avoid picking a long, complex name that your customers will have a hard time memorizing.
  2. Make it relevant: Think of what your cosmetics company stands for and choose a name that represents what you do. The more relevant your name is to the concept of your business, the more attractive it will be to your target audience. For example, if you aim at starting a luxury brand, you should prefer a name that suggests elegance and exclusivity. Or if your products are organic, your business name should be inspired by nature. So choose a name that tells your brand’s story.
  3. Check its availability: Before making your final decision on the name of your business, you need to make sure it is available in your country. But this won’t be enough. Given the fact that everything is digital in our days, choosing a name with an available URL is very important. And this will definitely make things a lot easier for you.

When it comes to naming your cosmetics company, keeping these tips in mind, you are already in the right direction. The competitor name analysis that follows will also help you understand how some of the top brands in the industry got their name and it will offer you more inspiration for choosing yours. Tips for naming a Lipstick Business

Lipstick is about more than the product itself. For many customers, lipstick may represent self care, confidence, and a whole lot more. Taking this into account, it’s worth digging deeper than the names that might be the most obvious. Give customers a sense of what they’ll get from your specific lipstick brand, and you’ll be more likely to draw in customers looking for that specific experience.

Paint A Picture Or Engage A Sense: Provide customers with an image or idea of the results of using this lipstick. Think about how the lipstick will feel, smell or look. Otherwise, you might also consider how a customer might feel while wearing the lipstick. Creating a positive image will likely draw in more customers.0
Make Sure It’s Original: When you’re thinking about the name for a lipstick business, it’s easy to go with obvious words like “beautiful” or “pretty”. Because of that, these words are more likely to be taken and less likely to draw the eye. Instead, try to come up with more creative words to use in your name.
Think Twice Before Using A Name: It’s not uncommon to find the names of people used as a lipstick or makeup brand. However, this idea is often only successful when the name behind it is already popular. Just think of all the celebrities from music and movies who eventually go onto create a perfume or lipstick brand. If you’re new on the scene, it’s better to come up with something that will catch the attention of customers better.

This name uses a rhyming scheme to help customers remember it more easily. Additionally, it points to products that are natural, which gives customers the idea that this product will be safer and better to use on their skin.

Mana Products
Mana products is a name that brings a touch of nerd culture onto the makeup scene. For those who know what mana is, it becomes clear that the products offered by this company seek to replenish the customers who use them.

Clinique
Clinique is a name that appeals because it offers the sense that medical professionals are somehow involved in the process of making the products. As a result, they may be safer or more effective. This is a great example of using a name to provide a specific image to customers.

Tarte
This name provides the sensation of something tangy and delicious. Consequently, it’s a great example of a name engaging the senses. Though you aren’t really supposed to eat lipstick, it does make the brand more appealing.

Colour Pop
While the previous business name evokes the sense of taste, Colour Pop evokes the sense of sight. It brings to mind lipstick options in a wide variety of colors, including bright options as well as more muted styles. This is a name that can appeal to adventurous customers.

How To Name Your Business Correctly

How To Name Your Business Correctly –

How To Name Your Business Correctly : You’ve got the best idea since sliced bread. Now you need the perfect brand name for your business, product, website, or whatever it is that is currently nameless.

In other words, you need a cool business name that will sum up your emerging venture flawlessly, catapulting it firmly towards the success you know it deserves.

In this article we will share our proven process that has been used more than 20,000 times to help successfully generate brand names for our clients.

When you are naming a business, you need to make sure you go about it the right way. We have created this process and these tips for choosing a catchy business name to help you succeed. Here’s everything you should consider when coming up with a business name.

Great brand names are like magnets that people gravitate towards. You have a chance to carve out a unique brand identity when you choose a suitably great name.

Don’t forget, potential customers adopt certain expectations upon hearing your name. If their expectations don’t align with reality, they will quickly get the sense that something is awry.

But that’s not really why it’s so crucial to come up with the very best company name possible.

While names are certainly the cornerstone of your brand, there are actually much more concrete reasons to invest time in getting the best company names that you can find.

  1. Start by Understanding the ROI of a Name

In this section, we will go over how a name directly impacts your monetary success. A perfect business name is more than just frills–it can mean the difference between a sale and a loss! Here are a few ways that a name can bring tangible value to your business.

Are you still not buying the importance of a great business name? Google is a great example of a company that likely would not have grown to such enormous success with their original business name, Backrub. Learn more about the Backrub to Google rebrand here.

  1. Clearing envision your brand

Ask, Who do I want to be when I grow up?

Everything has a name, a word we attach to it to give it some sort of meaning. Words and names are terms of reference for us when we communicate.

Concrete, clear and well-defined ideas are much easier to name than hazy, vague ones.

If you’re planning to open a chocolate shop, you need to know more about it than the simple fact that you’ll be selling chocolates! So, let’s dive in.

Start by narrowing your ideas down until you have distilled them the essentials of your brand. You’ll build your name from these key components. You may want to start with our business name generator.

Naming a business is all about focusing your ideas. Like the graphic above states, start with your venture, then narrow your focus to your brand. Your brand is what really informs the naming process.

If you are trying to find the perfect name for your chocolate shop, you don’t want to focus so much on the broad operational details like the top-of-the-line equipment you use or the fact that you’re opening with adorable striped awnings over your windows.

Instead, learn to narrow your focus on details that make up your brand, like the fact that you are starting this shop so that people can enjoy the small things in life. These are the kinds of details that will help you find a name.

As you continue to narrow your focus, come up with a one-sentence value proposition to hone your ideas even more.

From there, you can distill your ideas into just one to two words, which will become your new business name. Let’s explore how this is done.

  1. Creating a brand name tone
The best way to ensure that a business name sets you up for success is to make sure you are choosing a business name that sets up the right brand tone.

Tone is a general term for a character or attitude of a place, story, song, business, and more. The tone of your business should speak to your audience while also appealing to your business aspirations.

The right tone will set a foundation of your brand and allow you to control how your brand is perceived. Think of the brands Gucci and Fossil. People who are shopping for purses or high-end products will gravitate towards Gucci, whereas Fossil makes a direct appeal to durability and lasting practical quality.

Some of our favorite brand tones:
Prestigious
Fun and Playful
Amiable and inviting
Pragmatic or practical
Modern and innovative
Intriguing
Emotionally impactful
See examples of our five brand name styles below:

You can select the right brand tone by considering who your customers are, what attracts them to you, and why they should be excited about your brand.

You may also want to consider your industry–what types of brands have your competition built, and how do you want to fit into, or stand out from, the scene? This will help you build a unified and successful brand. You can get a little inspiration through own collection of business name ideas. They’ve been created by experts in branding across a range of industries, so can be used as a jumping off point.

Returning to our chocolate shop example, because your focus is on improving people’s days and brightening moods, you will probably want an approachable, inviting name with an element of intrigue that draws people in. Consider your needs, and build your tone from them.

  1. Understand Secondary Branding Elements
While an overarching tone is critical to developing a great brand and a brand name – the tone is not enough. Secondary branding elements are the building blocks that you’ll use to actually develop great name ideas.

Take time to jot down ideas for each of the following bullet points. This is information you can start to use to piece together your brand name. Think of these ideas as the building blocks of your brand.

Big ideas: What are the large concepts behind your business plan?
Values: What personal business values or audience values drive your brand?
Stories: Is there a story behind your business that you should tie to?
Industry specifics: What values are specific to the industry that you want to align with?
Benefits: What specific benefits do you offer your customers?
Feelings: Are you trying to provoke any strong emotions from your audience?
Value Proposition: This is a specific statement that sums up your brand (mentioned above)

Your secondary branding elements will inform how you construct your name. As you begin naming, you will use pieces of this information to form a list of name ideas. Not every name will appeal to every bit of information on this list, but that’s okay! Focus on capturing the core elements.

Now, let’s talk about creating that name!

  1. Don’t move on until it’s on paper
Once you have thought through each of these aspects, it is time to form your name!

We know this is a lot of information, so let’s do a quick recap.

Above, we went through various ways to collect your brand thoughts and build your brand. Here, we will be going through some steps to help you turn a brand into a name.

Setting Up your Naming Criteria
A great business name is whittled down from a concise project statement comprised of all the elements we discussed above.

A successful brand name can serve many functions. Most brands that you know can be reverse-engineered to reveal how they work in the company’s favor.

For example, Urban Decay is a business name that helped the stand-out makeup brand break away from industry conventions, just like their products do. Urban Decay wanted to offer bold colors and urban trends for a younger crowd.

Typical makeup brands at the time like Lancome and Maybeline offered safe, neutral colors. Urban Decay needed a name that showed how and why they were different, and as jarring of a name as it is, it stands out and intrigues an audience.

How to turn this all into naming criteria
Once you have gathered all of the above information about the brand you are building, you can create some clear project statements that help you and others understand exactly what you need out of a name.

If you are opening a chocolate shop that focuses on community, creativity, and great chocolates, your project statement might look like this:
I need an intriguing name for a chocolate shop that speaks to creativity, community, and great sweets. The name should be inviting and approachable, but also slightly mystical.
In this example, intriguing is the tone you want your brand to have, and your building your name’s secondary elements include, creativity (big idea), community (big idea), great chocolate (benefit), and inviting and approachable (feelings).
Tying together key elements of your brand in a project statement will truly help focus your direction. It will also provide a point of reference that you can jump back to when you’re deciding on your final name.

Important note: Keep your target audience in mind!

Enlist Help
Coming up with a great business name on your own is frustrating for most people – sadly, for some, it may even be impossible. When you consult with others, you are much more likely to find the perfect name and (importantly) feel more confident in your decision. After all, the more brains you have working for you, generating ideas, the more fantastic options you’ll have to consider.

Considering there have been more than 6.7 million trademark applications, and there are only 171,476 words in the English language, choosing a new business name that is both cool AND available requires massive creative energy. A great way to start generating ideas is to collaborate. Here are some tips on developing a business name with a group.

If, however, you think you’ve got access to enough creative brainpower already, ensure you do the following to get the best ideas out of your creative naming team:

Not only is the above great for the creative process, you will also learn a lot about your business and what sort of naming ideas you like.

  1. Start Validating Your Name Ideas
If you’re following the process, you should by now have found at least one, and perhaps even two or three names you really love.

It’s tempting to stop at this point, ecstatic that you’ve got results. But whatever you do, don’t drop out now!

Take the final steps. These steps will give you that added confidence you need to know for sure you’ve made a smart choice that won’t backfire on you down the road.

  1. Understand and budgeting for a domain
If you’re launching a new business in today’s world, you will likely need a domain. However, so many domains have been registered that it is no longer as simple as visiting a registrar and claiming the appropriate available domain.

While you may now understand how to land on a great name for your company, picking a domain is a different matter. In today’s very competitive world of business, most short, real English words are taken or very expensive.

Domain Budgeting for your project
Here is what you can expect to get with various domain budget levels:

When choosing a name for your business, considering your domain and domain budget will help you strengthen your business plan. Also consider how your domain will impact your business, and budget accordingly.

  1. Pass the Name Test Checklist
You need your business name to pass these basic name tests. Even the smartest, coolest names sometimes must be thrown out because they will cause long-term branding and marketing problems.

The Crowded Bar Test
A good business name is easy to say and hear, even in a crowded bar. This is the Crowded Bar Theory. The basic principle is that your name should still be understood, even if it’s said in a crowded bar.

If it cannot pass the crowded bar test, it probably will not hold up in the real world. It will be too difficult for people to share with each other.

You should also start narrowing your list of new company names by these two simple checklists we have created:

Use this checklist if you want people to CARE
Contextual – name makes sense for your brand positioning
Appealing – name is pleasant to say and hear
Remarkable – name sticks in the mind and gets people talking
Evocative – name is emotional, intriguing, experiential, or impressively clever
Use this one if you DON’T
Difficult – to spell or pronounce
Obscure – only a few people “get it”
Neutral – too safe, too boring, doesn’t excite to your audience
Taken – the legal implications aren’t good and the domain isn’t available
Read more about our checklist for creating a business name here.

  1. Avoid Legal Issues
Just like other aspects of your business, choosing a name has legal implications you must consider. This is why coming up with a unique name is so important.

Many of our clients, prior to deciding to use simple, effective platform went through legal nightmares when trying to name projects.

We feel the need to warn you in particular about Trademark issues. Just about every word in the dictionary is trademarked to a certain degree. Before you decide on a name, do your due diligence and get it checked out by legal professionals. If it’s high-risk, change it. A cease-and-desist letter can be a real show stopper.

For those in the U.S., remember, it’s important to complete a name search with the appropriate state agency, generally the office of the Secretary of State. In cases where the name you’ve chosen is NOT in use, you can reserve it for 120 days with the Secretary of State’s office. Make sure to undertake the right sort of due diligence so as to comply with local laws in your country of operation. (And please note that this is not legal advice.)

Know the Trademark danger zones
With so many trademarks, the chance of being able to use a single English word is becoming very slim. The common danger zones are:

Single English words
Power words – like Force, United, Omni and Icon
Symbolic words – like Bridge, Spring, Sage, Rocket
But just because you can’t use one stand-alone word, doesn’t mean you can’t integrate these words into something more original. Some of the most successful brand names out there use an interesting mix of real words and phrases to convey powerful messages.

Types of names that allow you to integrate more common English words include:

Transmutations – Zappos, Zumba
This & That – Lily and Moon, Crate & Barrel
Compounds – SnapChat, WordPress
Phrases – Mechanical Turk, Pliny the Elder
Visual Story – Ice Mountain, Red Bull
Blends – Groupon, Instagram

  1. Don’t forget Audience Validation
Now, for the final step! Get some audience validation. Make sure your target audience – real people who aren’t in your inner circle – react well to the name. Over the years, we’ve discovered that for those starting a new venture, getting audience validation is satisfying and encouraging.

When using a business name generator to find cool, creative, and catchy name for your small business, brand, startup, firm, or just about anything else, it’s always difficult to determine where to start. We believe that the first step in creating a great brand name is defining the underlying tone of your brand — aligning your brand with your audience and your strategic plan.

Classic Names

Classic names often align with a brand that wants to convey themselves as being preeminent, premium, and high-end. These names typically align with specific industries that want to illustrate to their customers that they prioritize offering high-end and luxury products and services.

Solution-based Names

Solution-based names are a great branding strategy to convey straightforwardly what your business does or provides. These names are highly regarded as being brandable, descriptive, and easy to market.

Intriguing Names

Intriguing names can come in several forms from standard intriguing, modern, and outlier. Whichever route you choose, intriguing names are built off of a big idea or concept that relates to your brand in some way. They help encourage brand recall and can help pique your target audience’s interest.

Fun and Playful Names

Fun and playful names are a great option if you want to come across as a warm, inviting, and approachable brand. While this naming style doesn’t work for every industry, it’s a great choice if your industry focuses on Kids and Babies, Entertainment, Marketing, or other welcoming industries.

Emotionally Powerful

Emotionally powerful names help elicit an emotional response from your target audience. Connecting with your audience through an emotion that is key to your business is a powerful strategy. This naming style only makes sense if your brand has an emotion you’d want to present at the forefront of your brand.

Examples of Great Business Names – Good Business Names List
A great business name can come in numerous forms from Standard Intriguing, Emotionally Powerful, to Abstract. Below are some examples of what a great business name looks like

Business Name Generator Tips and Tricks
When using a business name generator, the most important aspect is to create a relevant name with strong meaning and positive associations that clearly capture your brand’s essence.

Misspellings

When choosing a name that has a misspelling, there are a few etiquette rules to consider. First, misspellings should be slight and easy to recognize. Names like Lyft or Flickr are great examples. However, names like Conect or Acheive do not work and can be confused with common misspelled words. And avoid choosing names with multiple misspellings (i.e. Flickrr, Lyfte.

Blends

Blended names should have a straightforward and obvious connection like Groupon (Group and Coupon), Netflix (Internet and Flicks), Instagram (Instant and Telegram). Remember to choose words that are easy to say and spell. Double blends should always be avoided (AddVantEdge, for example).

Greek or Foreign Roots

If your brand name is based on a Greek or other foreign root word, be sure to use phonetically simple roots, such as Cata or Deca.

Numerical Values

Numerals are typically not encouraged when it comes to naming.

Abstract Names

The golden rule for abstract names is choosing one that sounds good and is easy to say. Think of Hulu, Zara, Redfin; these names don’t have any real meaning, but they sound great. Abstract names that are long or difficult must be avoided.

Phrases

Phrases chosen as a brand name should not include any misspellings. For example, StumbleUpon is a great option and would not be recommended as StmbleUpon or StumblUponn.
